Four Reasons To Collect Sports Posters

You have probably collected cards and all sorts of paraphernalia on your favorite sport, sports team or sports superstar. But have you ever given thought to collecting sports posters?

Posters are everywhere and you can find just about anything on a poster these days, from sports to classified ads. So what is so special about collecting sports posters? Here are a few reasons why you should invest in a few today.

• They are inexpensive – First of all, cards and all other kinds of paraphernalia can be quite pricey. This is especially true when you buy special hologram cards of your favorite sports player. A poster is only a fraction of the cost of a card, cup, baseball cap or whatever other collectible there is on the market. A poster is also much larger so you do get your money's worth.

• They are collectible – Contrary to what most people think, sports posters are collectible. Usually when we hear the word “collectible,” we think about little trinkets, cards, stamps and anything that can be put away in a box. But a poster has to be one of the best collectibles because you can display it out in the open on walls and even ceilings for visitors to see whenever they visit. Posters are just as timeless as any card collectible in the world and they can be displayed better because of their awesome sizes.

• They can be timeless – Yes, posters tend to fade and hit the trash over time. But with a little care and responsibility, one can actually turn such a cheap little point of advertisement into something timeless and rare. By simply framing a poster, it already gives value to it. So the next time that you find a rare poster that you would like to stick up on your wall, think about how valuable it may be in the future; frame it instead.

• They can be investments – If you have the eye for a good poster, then you can actually make something lucrative out of poster collecting. Like any other item that is collectible, a poster's value can rise over time. This is especially true if you have a rare sports poster of a certain popular player or even a team (like the Olympic Redeem Team that just won the gold back for the United States in the Beijing Olympics). Posters with images that communicate to people can instantly become items that are in demand, whether it be at an auction or on eBay. Think about investing in posters to resell them in the future. Who knows? You just might have the knack for choosing rare sports posters that are quite valuable whether they are from now or from the past.

These are just a few of the reasons to collect posters. All in all, if you really are a sports fan, you will have started your own sports poster collection already. Pictures of greats like Michael Jordan or David Beckham may already adorn your walls. But think again about what else those posters can be for you and whether they can be of value to others in the future.
